
The city of Crystal is rapidly growing, adding new residents as well as businesses and developments. Crystal is located just about 10 miles from the Twin Cities making it easy for people to travel to the big city yet still enjoy a smaller city life at home. Crystal is part of several different school districts, the Robbinsdale Area Schools Independent School District 281, Osseo School District #279 and Independent School District #287. The largest school district is the Robbinsdale Area School District. There are nine elementary schools, - some that specialize in particular subjects - from grades K-5th, two middle schools for grades 6th through 8th and three high schools one of which is an alternative learning center for grades 9th through 12th. Safety is the number one priority of Crystal. Crime in Crystal is very low because of the strong police force and community participation. Contacting your local public safety office is a wise decision because you'll get information for everything from crime prevention, child seat inspection, dog license, or volunteer work. Other resources for you to check out include the local D.A.R.E. program and the Predatory Sex Offender search list. The Public Works Department of Crystal works hard to bring you clean water, sanitary sewer systems, beautifully maintained parks and trails and well kept public properties and facilities. What would a city be without the local library? Not only do they offer books, CDs, tapes and magazine for you to check out, they offer public services like small business counseling and informational guidelines for new moms, readings for children and career opportunities. Most items borrowed are allowed up to three weeks unless otherwise stipulated. DVDs have a one-week time span, bestseller books are loaned out for 10 days with a small $3.00 fee and up to 100 items per library card at any given time.
